Throughout the years, I have participated in many arts, ceramics, drawing classes and workshops. These led me to develop my arts skills and after attending various summer schools in the U.K., I have come to discover how much I enjoy combining my arts skills with the digital world. I believe my focused education, and practical experiences so far have prepared me well for studying game art and design during my higher education.

 

This year, I finished a 30-hour program on “Maya” at the Anima VFX Animation School, Istanbul which is a top animations producer and school in Turkey. Creating a short animation with Maya gave me great satisfaction and insight into the field. Although game design and animation are very new industries in Turkey, I was also able to find a short internship in a company called Grafi2000 this past summer, where I assisted an animator and practiced using a 2D animation program called Moho. At the same time, in order to improve my technical skills, I started learning how to use the Wacom ProTablet and Photoshop Illustrator, which I believe will be beneficial in my future studies. In addition, I follow the latest developments and trends in this domain through “Gamasutra,” and am subscribed to “Oyunder,” a Turkish online site about the video game industry.

 

Further to my interest in game design, I have been attending courses at the Kadioglu Atelier in Istanbul three days a week since 2014, focusing on life and perspective drawing, improving my technical art skills and learning to work with different materials. I am working on a portfolio and one of the main themes of my work is mental disorders, particularly dissociative identity disorder. I have also recently explored the work of two Belgian artists who created a 3D metal maze and I am intrigued by the idea of ‘labyrinths.’ I hope to combine different aspects of these themes in my sketchbook and to go on design a game based on my sketches.

 

Since 2015, I have travelled to the U.K every summer and attended various summer schools there; and I know from my experiences that the U.K education system is a perfect fit with my aspirations. In July 2015, I successfully completed the “Young Creatives: EP ART& Design Workshop” at the University of the Arts London, Central Saint Martins. Then, in 2016 July, I participated in the Cambridge Summer School of Visual Performing Arts and successfully completed the Film Making and Painting & Drawing Pathway. In 2017, I completed the UAL International Summer School, allowing me to visit and experience different art colleges. I also visited seven universities in the U.K in April 2017 and talked with their representatives about game art and design education. As a result, I have gained a very good understanding of the cultural and student life in the U.K and I have also improved my art vision. In addition, I believe the excellent design and gaming industry in the U.K, and the connections the colleges have with the industry, will provide me with unique opportunities for a future career in game design. Recently, I also have been noticing the cooperation between Turkish and UK game companies which may help my future career.

 

Since I joined the Tarabya British School in 10th grade, my English language skills and grades have improved progressively; and I was included in the “Dean’s Honours List” both in 2015 and 2016. I also completed the Duke of Edinburgh Youth Achievement Bronze Award program; and am currently preparing for silver. I am also reading and recording books or short articles for blind students as a volunteer for the “Six Points Association of Blinds” where my mother has been working as a volunteer teacher. I am also an amateur DJ, and I participated in DJ courses in Istanbul D Academia and still play as a hobby.

 

My main wish for the future is to be a creative games designer and to work in an innovative, leading games company; and  I hope to be able to have the opportunity to start on this path in the U.K.
